The Division 2 has been a long time coming, from the moment The Division became the best selling game in Ubisoft's history to be precise. While the original game had a rocky start and it was a mess at launch, it managed to regain its player base that had previously left it. This happened through a series of updates and changes requested by players.

This all culminated with The Division update 1.8 that brought the game back into spotlight as it served as a second wind. Massive Entertainment and Ubisoft continued to support the game, and after three months of going strong, the time came for The Division 2's announcement.

This time around, Massive Entertainment is getting all the support they can imagine, with Ubisoft pouring their resources from Ubisoft Annecy, Redstorm, Reflections, Ubisoft Bucharest and Ubisoft Shanghai. The Division 2 will be running on an updated Snowdrop Engine, which proved to be top notch for the original game.
They also claim they will invest the experiences they 'accumulated over the past two years' with The Division in order to make sure the sequel lands smoothly. Personally, I would take this statement with a grain of salt, due to the company's behaviour with Watch Dogs, The Division and Rainbow Six Siege.
